So it’s back again, if you don’t know what’s up or you want to read about last week’s frozen meal check it out here.
I’m not going to even bother with piling on the self shame of eating a frozen meal (sarcasm, yes). Instead lets just get straight into it. Tonights work dinner was Michelina’s Lean Gourmet: Beef Teriyaki.
When purchasing this I was a bit iffy because I don’t always like teriyaki sauces, so it was a pretty risky buy (settle down there adrenalin junkie). However, I’m pretty happy with how the sauce turned out and didn’t mind it at all. But it’s a shame they were so stingy with it. Speaking of being stingy- check out the lack of vegies in this! I will admit this photo does make for a sad looking meal. As I was microwaving it I had to say to myself- ‘Don’t eat with your eyes’ repeatedly haha.
Lucky I had some extra frozen vege and mushrooms to bulk it up. In the box was pasta, beef, vegies and teriyaki sauce. I was actually really impressed with the flavour and found it pretty tasty but just felt there needed to be a bit more sauce. The beef was super thin, which I prefer because that means less chance for gross bits in the middle/fatty chunks. There wasn’t a huge amount of beef, so if you’re a meat lover you’d be disappointed but I didn’t feel deprived. I didn’t like the fact that it was nasty white pasta but sometimes that can’t be avoided (and I once read that a part of healthy balanced eating is being flexible in circumstances when they cannot be avoided). The biggest let down, as I recognised earlier, was the sad excuse for vegetables that they included.
Nutritionally wise, the meal is low in energy count and pretty decent in protein. Sodium is higher than I’d like, as is other aspects of the nutritional table. Like last week, there are better and worse things I could eat. The ingredient list is also smaller than others I looked at- can you believe it gets bigger? Haha, but really we are talking frozen meals here so what can we expect.
However, with what I was given I think I did pretty well don’t you? Looks more appetizing now, doesn’t it?
Overall, I’d give this meal a 6/10. I prefer this flavour to last week’s meal, but I’m not impressed with the vegies and pasta. It wasn’t half bad though, so I would have it again if I had to.
Do you ever eat frozen food/meals? Have you got any you recommend I try?
