Well I just got back from an out of the ordinary workout session. Since the gym is closed tonight for Ekka Monday I didn’t get to do my usual Body Step class. However, the instructor I team-teach with’s hubby runs a bootcamp and pt business and had a workout session tonight called ‘Outfit’. It goes for 45 minutes and is a great workout. It burned for the same amount of calories for me as a Body combat, bike and fitbox class- even with all the breaks we got. The session focuses on explosive and high intensity exercises with breaks in between. He always made sure we had a break so we could then amp up the intensity when we got back into it.
After a warm up of what he called active stretching and a quick sprint we did one round of the circuits. Each circuit was timed and the beeper prompted us when to start and stop. After the first round of circuits we had a break and did a sprint, which I came first for (since the bf was sitting out- more on this shortly). Then we had our final round of circuits before cooling down with a jogging lap and some stretches. Our first sprint I was out-run by the bf (does anyone else find fast male runners sexy haha?) but the second one I owned since he was out of service haha. About half way through the first round of circuits he started to feel crook in the gut so had to sit, walk and take it easy. He doesn’t exercise often people! And females are definitely the stronger gender haha! But I will admit there were a few other lady participants who were in the same boat as him.
So the circuits were all pretty varied. We did agility runs where we went in different directions from marker to marker and at times had to ‘stop, drop and roll’. There was weights for upright rows and biceps, push up handles for push ups, a mat for ab extensions and a sled. The sled was the ABSOLUTE worst circuit. It was a nightmare to push. Imagine pushing a lawnmower that weighs 4728304kgs and is flat along the ground. But it sure got my heart rate up. There were also hoops set up for jumping bounds and a square to do bear crawls, hops and sprints.
It was definitely a fun experience and different from my usual group fitness classes (although sort of similar to my fitbox class I do. In which case I would actually prefer Outfit over fitbox). I got a great workout, a nice sweat, my heart rate up and a chance to giggle at my bf whinging like a school girl 😉 Off to have dinner now- because someone has worked up an appetite. (And for once it’s not me!)
Have you tried any new exercises/workout lately?
